April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Aurora Health Care Foundation is supporting the healing journey of survivors by sharing their stories and raising critical funds for Aurora Healing & Advocacy Services. This is Jasmine’s story in her own words.
Due to the extreme trauma and suffering that I went through, I felt so isolated and alone. In 2012, I found the Healing Center. I was in a very dark place of depression and shame because of what happened to me. I found myself prisoner of my abuse, and this didn't allow me to see that I was worthy of healing or having a normal life.
Throughout my time here, I have grown so much. My counselor helped me understand that what happened to me wasn't my fault. In the process, I learned to set boundaries, trust others and learn that I'm worthy of love.
My life changed when, two years ago, I decided to accept Jesus in my heart and started to walk in His ways. Since then, He has become the anchor of my life and through Him, I have experienced freedom and breakthrough.
All the chains of anxiety, depression and shame have been broken. I now have joy and love in my heart, and I’m sharing my story with others to give hope and encouragement. I want this light and faith to reach those around me. I want to be an inspiration to my generation.
To anyone going through what I've been through: You are not alone. I want you to know that you are loved, you have value and your life is precious. I'm grateful to know that I have a purpose and hope for my future.
I would not be where I am today without Aurora Healing & Advocacy Services. Donations to Aurora Healing & Advocacy Services directly support counseling, emergency forensic care, the 24/7 crisis hotline and more to help survivors like me heal and thrive.
Thank you for giving me the tools, reassurance and a safe space for me to reclaim my voice.
