NARI Milwaukee helps breast cancer survivors heal and thrive

We are extremely grateful to NARI Milwaukee and the NARI Milwaukee Foundation for their generous gift of $20,000 to support Team Phoenix, an initiative of Aurora Research Insitute. Team Phoenix is a 14-week fitness and research program in which a leadership team of multidisciplinary clinicians, triathlon coaches and volunteers encourage and assist female cancer survivors to regain endurance, strength, flexibility and overall health and wellness after cancer treatment. All their hard work culminates in competing in a sprint-distance triathlon.

“We value our partnership with Team Phoenix because it has a local community focus. It is important to us that the funds we raise go directly to cancer support programs and research that’s being done right here in Milwaukee,” said NARI Milwaukee board president Bingo Emmons, CR, CRPM, UDCP, owner of Creative Construction of Wisconsin, Inc.

A portion of the $20,000 donation by NARI Milwaukee and the NARI Milwaukee Foundation is eligible to receive a match from the Ruud Family Foundation. Since 2017, NARI Milwaukee and the NARI Milwaukee Foundation have donated a total of $45,000 to Aurora Health Care Foundation.

On May 17, NARI Milwaukee hosted its annual Aurora Cancer Care House Soirée to raise funds to support cancer programs and research. Nearly 150 people attended the VIP fundraising event, which was held at a stunning, newly remodeled Whitefish Bay home near Lake Michigan. J&J Contractors I transformed the home into a bright and open space over the course of an extensive, eight-month remodel.

Team Phoenix began in 2011 as an innovative cancer program based on the multidisciplinary collaborative efforts of Judy A. Tjoe, MD, Aurora Cancer Care breast oncology surgeon and Aurora Research Institute medical research director of Translational Oncology Research: Quest for Understanding & Exploration (TORQUE), and Leslie J. Waltke, DPT, cancer rehabilitation specialist for Aurora Physical Therapy.

You can support Team Phoenix and make it possible for more athletes to participate by donating HERE.
