Brittney is a single mother of five children, ages one month to 13 years old. She is also raising her 3-year-old nephew. This year for Thanksgiving, she wasn’t sure if she could afford a meal for all of them to enjoy together. That’s why they were all smiles when Aurora Family Service arrived and provided her family with a turkey and all the fixings, thanks to the Family to Family Thanksgiving program.
“I was so grateful for this meal, I wasn't sure what we were going to do. I feel happy now that I can cook something for my family,” Brittney shared.
Charitable support of this program made it possible for Aurora Family Service to distribute nearly 3,100 meals to the greater Milwaukee community this year. Aurora team members work with local community organizations to find families who are in need. Dozens of volunteers then help pack the groceries the weekend before Thanksgiving, and they are distributed the Monday before the holiday.
This year, Advocate Aurora Health CEO Jim Skogsbergh stopped by Aurora Family Service to lend a hand to the team members and volunteers. We are so thankful to donors of this program who make it possible for families like Brittney’s to enjoy this holiday meal together.
