Your gifts support new simulation lab to enhance clinical learning

Last year, Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care joined together to create Advocate Aurora Health, the 10th largest not-for-profit health system in the country. Your generosity will continue to make health care more accessible and compassionate for each person we serve. Here, we’re sharing stories about people, just like you, who are making a difference.

Advocate Aurora Health is adding a new simulation suite that will change the way team members and physicians train. The center was made possible thanks to a $500,000 commitment from donors to Aurora Health Care Foundation’s Greatest Needs Fund. The suite is housed at the Milwaukee Conference Center, inside the Heil Building, which is located near Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.

“Simulation helps us to develop a critically thinking interprofessional workforce through team based, deliberate practice to foster the safest, highest quality care possible,” shared Mary Beth Kingston, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, executive vice president and chief nursing officer for Aurora Health Care.

This center features two rooms that can be adapted to various settings including a birthing suite, intensive care unit or a waiting area, among others. Simulation training allows team members to be immersed in scenarios that mimic their work experiences. They can also make mistakes and learn from them all without ever touching a patient.

“It will positively impact patients through improved team work and communication in emergency response situations,” explained Lynne Delfosse, MSN, RN, simulation manager, North Region. “We are so appreciative of the donors who helped make this possible.”

Aurora Health Care Foundation’s Greatest Needs Fund is supported by hundreds of donors all throughout Wisconsin. Simulation is part of Advocate Aurora Health’s strategic plan to improve patient safety.
